His grandmother’s breathing trouble, and what the blood test found

Happy New Year, Zongyuan 🌹 I saw a post on your Moments earlier about “fire excess causing issues” and didn’t think much of it at the time… But a few days ago when I went back to my hometown, I noticed my grandmother was having trouble breathing, short of breath. My dad said they took her to the hospital and it was heart failure… The medicine helped a little for a few days, but on New Year’s Eve the temperature dropped more than ten degrees, plus she helped wash vegetables in cold water for a long time, and today she’s short of breath again. My grandmother has never been in great health. After my grandfather passed away she lived with us out of town for three years, but after coming home last Winter Solstice she refused to go back with us no matter what. I’m really worried about her heart failure condition… I just want to ask about her state. Can sticking to medicine control the condition? Will she be safe this year? And what can I do?

I don’t remember the earlier years clearly, but my grandmother did have surgery in 2021, and two operations the year before that. They were all bone issues — femoral head necrosis. She still has back pain now… For the lungs, when we went to the hospital the day before yesterday, the test showed some reduced lung function. She also has cerebral infarction, and has fainted many times because of it. I don’t mind saying this to you… Actually, as a grandson, I shouldn’t be the one worrying so much about her health… But I don’t know why her sons always find it hard to truly care for her. My uncle’s family always brushes things off, and my dad sometimes feels like he shouldn’t be the only one taking care of her. I can understand his way of thinking, but I can’t stand it. They always put off dealing with illness until the last minute… The day before yesterday at the hospital, the doctor asked my grandmother if she felt better, and she said yes. It wasn’t until I asked her if she really felt better that she said actually it wasn’t much better, just better than when it was acting up… I’m really scared she’ll keep lying to her two sons like this… My grandfather also put things off back then and missed the treatment window. Otherwise he wouldn’t have passed so suddenly. He hid it the whole time before, and when he couldn’t hold on anymore he called my dad back, then my uncle’s family came back too. But later I don’t know why he suddenly refused treatment, lost the will to keep going… He passed in less than a month.

Now she refuses to come live with us no matter what (maybe she would, maybe she really wouldn’t, I really don’t know why… maybe rotating between each family for a month makes her feel like a burden… I said at the very least three months at a time, I don’t understand why it has to be one month rotations…) Now I’m really scared something will happen if no one is there to take care of her… but I feel like there’s nothing I can do. The blood test did find something wrong — low potassium. The doctor suspected it right away, and we waited all morning for the lab report. It wasn’t the insufficient heart function that the local clinic had diagnosed… (Doctors in small places really don’t have enough experience.) As for the gastrointestinal issue, it’s a bit frustrating. She denies having any symptoms, and without proof it’s hard to convince her or the rest of the family to take her for a checkup. I can only say I’ll pay more attention to observing her condition… Anyway, thank you so much 🙏
